At Asher's 6 month check-up, his pediatrician told us that a milestone she likes to see by 9 months is some type of movement. It can be rolling, crawling, walking, whatever, as long as the baby is getting around somehow. So as the next couple months rolled by, we watched closely because Asher hadn't yet mastered rolling over on both sides and was showing no signs of crawling. While other babies were pulling up and going all over the place, he was content to just hang out in one spot.
And then, all of a sudden when he was over 8 months old, the boy started rolling all over the place. And we breathed a sigh of relief and were proud to report at his check-up that yes, indeed, he was mobile.
And then more time went by, and nothing else was really happening. He could stand here and there for a minute with help, and he was trying to crawl but would just fall on his stomach. And I knew that other babies had crawled around 9.5 months, if not earlier. And Asher was 10.5 months and.....nothing. But then, once again all of a sudden, over this past weekend he started doing the army crawl. Hey, whatever gets you around, little dude! We feel a little more relaxed now that he is doing some form of crawling, even if it's on his stomach. As he has become more adept in the past couple days, he has started to look like a spider moving across the floor. It's pretty hilarious, and, yes, almost a little creepy at the same time, just as seeing a giant spider crawl around your floor would be.
And he has also pulled himself up to a standing position twice and has even taken a couple of cruising steps while holding onto the coffee table! We are so proud to see that our chunky monkey is really getting strong, even though now he is finding anything and everything he can get his hands on and stick in his mouth. You have to keep a close eye on this one!

I can't wait to see the little spider-man!!! Kids just do stuff at different times - he's normal and will totally be cruising before you know it!
