V is For Visitors

This past weekend, Eric's parents came up to visit us. They are the second of our Spring/Summer visitors that we are getting. We started off with my dad last month. Next up will be my friend, Nita, who will be coming at the beginning of June, followed by my mom, and then my youngest brother, Francisco.

Virgil and Gladys (Eric's parents) had not been up here since Asher's birthday last August. Each time they have come up, we haven't really had the opportunity to really take them around town, so we were definitely looking forward to actually doing stuff with them this trip. Unfortunately, when Gladys stepped off the plane, I discovered that something was not right. An entire side of her face, including her eye, was horribly bruised and swollen. The day before, she had fallen hard on some rocks. Luckily, she was okay, but she kindly requested to be left out of pictures, which I completely understood. Despite not feeling her best, she was still quite the trooper and was up for anything.

On their first full day here, we all went to the Zoo. Asher just wasn't in the mood for it, so it wasn't as much fun as it could be. He wanted absolutely nothing to do with the giraffes or with feeding them crackers (he actually wanted to eat the cracker himself instead!) Don't worry - that didn't actually happen). But it was a perfect day outside, and the rest of us had fun even if he didn't!
Despite his crankiness at the Zoo, Asher was really very pleasant with his grandparents. In the past, he has not always been friendly toward them, so I was very glad to see him playing with them and truly enjoying spending time with them.

Next up, we headed out to the Royal Gorge in Canon City, a beautiful canyon with a wood bridge over it. It's about 90 minutes from us, so it was a nice drive out there. The weather was perfect at about 78 degrees, and we all really enjoyed ourselves.Asher breaking free from his stroller to explore the bridge. One side of the gorge (pictures really don't do it justice).

On our way back, we stopped at the Holy Cross Abbey Winery, where monks have their own winery. We enjoyed a delicious and free tasting and picked up some (holy?) bottles of wine. There's nothing like drinking wine that is endorsed by men of God!

We filled the rest of the time with hanging out, watching movies, and just relaxing. They both said they had a great trip, and we had a good time as well. Too bad they had to go back to 108 degree Phoenix!

You're a good hostess - always give visitors wine. :) Looks like you guys thoroughly enjoyed yourselves and filled your weekend up with lots of fun stuff!!!!! I just love the Royal Gorge but boy did that make you nervous with Asher running all over? I love heights but at the same time they make me sooooo nervous! I think I'd be a nervous wreck chasing Corben all over that bridge! :)
