Thanks But No Thanks

This year, we decided that we would really like to get a picture of Asher with Santa. Our local mall has a really lame one for some reason - no Santa suit or hat; frankly he just looks like an old man with white hair. That's not the kind I want! So, we decided to drive an hour to a really nice mall in Denver to see Santa and do some Christmas shopping. The good news? They have an awesome Santa that was just what we had in mind.

The bad news? The line was horribly long, and we have a 15-month-old. This is not a good combo. Asher wanted to walk around and get into mischief, so we took turns taking him around and letting him do his thing. He had both of our car keys in hand, and we got a lot of mileage out of those babies, let me tell you! Unfortunately, after an hour, this trick turned stale, and all the magic was most definitely lost. At that point, Asher turned into a Screaming Monster who threw himself on the ground and thrashed about, which definitely drew many stares. At least we were surrounded by other sympathetic parents who understood (and who I just know were secretly pleased that their child wasn't screeching like that!).

I pulled out all the stops in trying to get him to calm down - peek-a-boo, singing songs, and tickling. Fortunately, it did work to some extent. For a little while. Our total wait time was close to an hour and a half, and he was doing decent (although hanging on by a thread) by the time we reached Santa. However, once he was placed on his lap, he had an immediate response of HECK NO! He wanted absolutely nothing to do with the man in red and looked terrified. Nothing would calm him down.

So, after all that, no picture. Nothing at all to show for the miserable wait.

Maybe we'll try again...or maybe we'll wait until next year!

Ha ha! That reminds me of when Josh was that age. I had to be in the picture too, because he wouldn't go anywhere near Santa. Next year will be a whole different story, I'm sure. And what the heck is up with your local Santa? How lame is that? =)

Oh dear. I'm sorry it didn't turn out the way you guys had hoped. At least you got your shopping done but still!
